Last Monday I happened to have a bit of free time and I thought I would just review what happens when you search for the "Beech Hill Hotel" just to get a flavour of where we rank etc... And because I'm slightly OCD I didn't just stop after 3 pages of results I just kept on going until I hit page 33 or so when an ebay listing caught my eye.
Someone was selling vintage postcards and the hotel's name was in the listing so I clicked on it to find a picture postcard (D) of the hotel. We think it dates from 1920s to 1960s. Admittedly this is a large range but it is based upon the Telephone Number "Windermere 493" in postcard (E). Then further investigations followed and I was able to find 4 more, a really early one judging by the lack of extensions (A) and the other 3 (B,C & E) of a similar age to the first one (D).
We know that the Hotel has be established for well over a hundred years but to see what it looked like originally from the lake and the air is just fascinating and I hope you can enjoy them as much as I did.
Incidentally I did find another postcard from 1988 in colour when the hotel was owned/managed by Quality International which boasted a Helipad as one of the amenities. We have looked High & Low to find the Helipad but we are struggling to see where it was located.
We will be getting the postcards framed, and they will be displayed somewhere in the hotel in the not to distant future. Finally the moral of the tale is don't always look at the first page of your search engine, dig a little deeper and you might find treasure.
The image above is 3200 x 1800 pix so if you would like to zoom in on the individual postcards you can but you'll need to save the image to your computer and view it in your computers picture viewer or equivalent photo software.
(Please do contact us if you can shed any further light on the age of the images as it would be great to know and if we do get any further information we will update this blog.)
