Windermere Jetty is a new museum that has just opened, which celebrates the world of this majestic lake in all its dynamic beauty. It explores the different modes of transport that feature on the lake, such as the steam launches, sailing yachts, and speed boats.
Within the boathouse itself, there is an opportunity to take a look up close at the record-breaking speed boats. You can also view the speedboats, in the exhibition galleries and of course out on the lake itself. The conservation workshop is open to the public on a daily basis, allowing you to see for yourself how each boat is painstakingly restored to its original state.
You can learn all about the history of boating on The Lakes, and how families would live their whole lives in the boat trade, creating and repairing the boats. You can also discover how new technology is revolutionising the way in which the boats are created.
You can even go one step further, by booking a Heritage Boat Trip, which can be booked right on Windermere Jetty. Step on board one of the Edwardian steamboats and sail along the calm waters. The trips are only available to purchase with museum entry though and places are limited.
