Silloth

Silloth is a gorgeous town, a port town and civil parish, 22 miles west of Carlisle.  Historically part of Cumberland, it was at one time one of the North of England’s most popular seaside resorts. It is well worth a visit if you are in this part of the world.

Places of note include a championship golf course, which is ranked amongst the country's top fifty courses. So make sure you pay it a visit if you are a golf enthusiast.

Silloth, also prides itself on its gorgeous coastline along the Solway Firth. Any fisherman worth their salt will tell you it’s a great place for angling. With over 20 miles (32 km) of beach and promenade, there are few places in England more idyllic to go walking in. Wind and kite surfing are carried out along the coast at Allenby just a few miles from Silloth town centre.

To the south of Silloth there is the impressive Wolsty Castle, complete with its very own moat. Built by the monks of Holm Cultram Abbey  to prevent a sudden invasion of the Scottish, one of its chambers is dedicated to a thirteenth century wizard who housed his books of spells in the castle.
