This Spring, the Rheged Centre is offering a great class for kids, all about paper weaving. The classes are taking place between Saturday the 13th of February and Sunday the 15th of May, 2016. They cost a mere £2, but parental supervision is required throughout.
During the classes, children can learn the ancient tradition of weaving and come away with a new skill and a better understanding of the creative discipline needed to produce beautiful pieces of art. Through the classes, children of all ages can learn to create the iconic Outer Hebrides classic pattern; Harris Tweed- by weaving together thin strips of coloured paper. There is a degree of looseness to the classes as instructors want to ensure that once children have learned the basics, they are then free to create patterns of their own choosing. This is a creative space and self expression is encouraged. Once the design is finished, staff will carefully seal your child’s creation in plastic so it can be kept as a wall decoration or even a place mat!
The Rheged Centre is a fantastic creative space, situated in Redhills, Penrith and the building itself is beautifully carved into the the side of a hill. Go see it for yourself!
