Monet at Abbot Hall Art Gallery. For all you art fans, this is a must-see exhibition. A masterpiece by one of the world’s most famous impressionist painters is on display for public viewing in Abbots Hall Gallery in Kendal. Claude Monet’s Haystacks: Snow Effect, will be hanging in Abbot Hall Art Gallery from Friday the 12th of January until the 28th of April.
The painting is on loan from the National Gallery of Scotland, in Edinburgh and is from a series of widely acclaimed painters by Monet, produced in the late 19th century. This is the first time a Monet has been on display in Cumbria and this cements the reputation of Abbot Hall as a renowned gallery in its own right.
The French impressionist painter, produced 30 versions of his haystack paintings, each time trying to catch the way the light hits the haystacks in a different way. In Haystacks: Snow Effect the haystacks are almost reduced to a shadow in the glowing winter light.
The haystacks stood in a field in Monet's garden near his famous waterlillys.
The paintings from the Haystack series hang in some of the most famous cities in the world; Tokyo, Paris, London and New York and now Kendal!
