Taking place on Summer's nights each June, Light the Lakes is a special event organised by the police forces which produces a truly wonderful sight to behold. What happens at the event is that teams of police officers, staff, retired officers and police friends set off to climb one of the beautiful local fells and light it up, in memory of colleagues that have been killed in the line of duty in the previous year.
Participants are asked to purchase a ticket from the Light the Lakes website for £5 and then climb one of the fells where they will light their lamps. The dream of the founder of the event, Ian Davis has always been to cover all 214 Wainwright Fells. Though the goal is yet to be achieved the event is growing and has recently gained sponsorship from Wainwrights Beer.
As the police work closely with the community, ordinary members of the public are also invited to join the event, with proceeds all going to police charities.
The event takes place from the 21st to the 23rd of June. For more information see the event Website
