For a truly unique experience, go and discover the Lakeland Miniature Village. Set in Grange-over-Sands in Cumbria, the village is a tribute to the landscape of yesteryear. Featuring Over 100 buildings made from local Coniston slate, the Lakeland Miniature Village is a patchwork of tiny buildings and farm houses depicting the very best of the Cumbrian landscape. It includes Hill Top, the home of Beatrix Potter. There is even a replica of Slater's Bridge. Windermere's Baddeley Clock, the roadside monument halfway between Bowness and Windermere and Yew Tree Farm, near Coniston, also feature.
The village, remarkably has been crafted by hand tools over the last 22 years. The site closes on October 31st, but until then it is open from 10.30 a.m. to 5pm.
It is a stunning collection and cleverly executed. The castle and church are particularly impressive. So too are the water features throughout the village and of course the oriental building, which looks onto a Japanese garden.
Remarkably the whole site was created by just one architect, retired builder Edward Robinson.
Entry fees are very reasonable at just £4 for adults, concessions £3.50 and children £2.00.
