From the 16th to the 19th of February, Keswick Film Festival returns to the Lake District for what will be a memorable and immersive experience. A reoccurring theme of many of the films in this years festival will be the landscapes of foreign places, which is fitting given that the festival is taking place in a region which is defined by in large by its landscape. Natural environment shapes the lives that we lead in many ways and that idea is explored in depth on celluloid at this years fest. Landscape has also played a pivotal role in inspiring many great writers throughout literature, who have on occasion seen their works transformed for the silver screen. Landscape in writing is a key theme of the festival and you will be fascinated to learn just how the local landscape has influenced so many famous screen writers.
With landscape comes diversity and this can be seen in terms of race, sexuality, gender and religion, which give rise to tensions and conflict, age old themes that form the plot lines of many a film classic. Such films will be showcased and dissected at the festival.
A new addition to the festival this year is the Critics Award, a chance for viewers to thrash out their opinions on everything film, from storylines, to camera angles, to style. Also on the menu are some thought provoking documentaries, some special guests and a look at film festivals around the world.
The festival takes place at Theatre by the Lake and tickets are priced between £25 and £50. For more information visit the Keswick Film Festival Website
