A must see event to attend this September in the Lakes, is the legendary Kendal Torchlight Carnival. Held every year in Kendal, the purpose of this great event is to promote and celebrate all things that are fabulous about the local area. The organisers want to support local businesses, encourage tourism and bring about a coming together of the community. They encourage participation in the events, making them accessible to all members of the community without exception. The carnival is run by a charity by the name of Torchlight, which operates throughout the year, shining a light on all things Kendall and promoting it to the rest of the world.
Torchlight is funded by local businesses and through council grants.
The carnival is scheduled to take place on September the 11th in Kendal. The theme of the carnival is yet to be announced, although previous themes have been fully inclusive, developmental and inspirational. What we do know is the full schedule which is planned for the evening:
Carnival Entrants, many of whom will be from the local community, will start arriving from around 5.00pm. Kendal Town Centre will close to incoming traffic at around 6.30pm.
The Kendal Torchlight Carnival procession, starts from the traffic lights by K Village Car Park at 7:30, windings its way around the town before heading back to the town leisure centre at 10:45. The procession route will be lined with marshals letting the public know exactly where the route is laid out.
The Kendal Torchlight Carnival is a legendary event on the Lake District calendar and should not be missed. If this year’s event is anything like last years, when over 1700 participants from 75 different organisations joined in with the festivities, then this year will be another roaring success.
