The Kendal Mountain Festival takes place Thursday the 17th through to Sunday the 20th and is set to be a great event. Just to put it into perspective how monumental the event is, it is the world's biggest mountain festival and the only one of its kind in the Lakes. The festival is a celebration of all things mountain related, from cinema to literature and its one main aim is about trying to get more people involved in mountain related activities like hiking and camping on these vast peaks. There is a fascinating culture that surrounds mountains and this festival is all about drawing attention to that.
Central to the festival is the Mountain Film Awards. These movies are all about the landscape and its history, present and future. From films about the local environment and how it is rapidly changing to movies about the indigenous tribes that once lived in the area, the festival has it covered.
At the end of the three day festival there will be an award ceremony where the best film will gain recognition and be given a prize. For more information check out mountainfest
