The ancient Egyptians were one of the first societies to really harness the power of the written word. They documented and recorded their lives like no society had done before. This exhibition takes a look at the role that the written word played in Ancient Egypt and how it told the story of a fascinating and ancient civilisation.
The exhibit looks at how letters, storytelling and the documentation of everyday life, featured in Egypt and how this gives us a unique insight into how this legendary society functioned and expanded. There are also many objects on display in the museum that reflect the diversity of written cultures within Ancient Egypt, exploring many different kinds of languages and scripts, including Coptic, Greek, Arabic, and Nubian.
