From the vineyards of Bordeaux….
CAUDALIE was founded in 1995 when Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas, the founders of CAUDALIE, had a chance encounter with Dr. Vercauteren, professor at the University of Pharmacy, Bordeaux, and the world’s leading expert on grape and grapevine polyphenols. On the vineyards of the Château Smith Haut Lafitte in Bordeaux, the professor noticed the leftover skins and seeds of the grapes from the harvest and explained to the couple that the polyphenols in the grape and grapevines had extraordinary anti-oxidant powers and that grape seed is the most powerful antioxidant created by nature.
Today CAUDALIE has grown into a truly global company with a presence in over 30 countries. CAUDALIE’s technology and innovation have made them one of the world’s top skincare brands, whilst uniquely remaining a 100% independent family owned business. CAUDALIE has also become a cult favourite amongst celebrities, make-up artists, beauty editors and they have won several esteemed beauty industry awards in the UK.
The Science behind the brand…
CAUDALIE have since created three patents with Dr. Vercauteren to protect, nourish, brighten, lighten and firm the skin, and rigorously research and trial the latest scientific advances to guarantee maximum effectiveness for each and every product.
The patents include:
- Resveratroleratrol
Discovered in grapevine stalks, Resveratrol is an anti-ageing revolution that naturally intensifies the firmness and youthfulness of the skin. Grapevines have an incredible power to resist the harsh effects of the cold, wind and rain to live for up to 100 years. Their secret? Resveratrol, a substance that the vine produces to protect itself. No other molecule has been cited in as many scientific publications and fuelled as much discussion in the field of cell degeneration.
- Polyphenols
Grape-seed polyphenols are the most powerful anti-oxidant in the plant world and are an amazing skin youth protectors. After many years of research, CAUDALIE succeeded in stabilising anti-oxidant Polyphenols for the very first time which are 10,000 times more active than vitamin E.
- Viniferine
Viniferine which comes from grapevine sap is the most effective natural molecule to counteract dark spots, to brighten the skin and even out the complexion. Viniferine has been proven to be 62 times more effective than vitamin C, four times more effective than kojic acid and at least 13 times more effective than arbutin in boosting skins radiance and fighting dark spots.
CAUDALIES Cosm’ethics
All CAUDALIE products follow the brand’s ‘Cosm-ethics’, formulas free of parabens, phenoxyethanol, mineral oils, sodium laureth sulfate, synthetic colouring and animal ingredients. CAUDALIE are also against animal testing.
The vine and grape extracts used for the patents come from the vineyards of Bordeaux, Champagne and Burgundy. Every day, they are looking for the next "green" active ingredients to strengthen their commitment to natural active skincare and to the environment, Cosm'ethics.
In March 2012, CAUDALIE decided to take its commitments even further by joining “1% for the Planet”. The brand now donates 1% of its annual world sales to NPOs that work to protect the environment. “1% for the Planet” encourages company directors to contribute 1% of their annual sales to environmental organisations and to invest in concrete terms to face the challenges of protecting the environment.
